How would you react if you were suddenly faced with an angel who gave out wonderful gifts to you completely out of the blue? Surely with joy, delight, astonishment and excitement. Well, that is exactly how people reacted to Rani Mukerji as she went from school to college to shopping mall handing out gifts ranging from story books, Mac Book laptop computer, DVD players, and even a holiday and a car!

It was the 27th of June, and as anyone who has seen the promos of the magic filled Yash Raj Films “Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic” knows, it’s the date on which “the magic began” with the release of the film. In the movie, Rani plays an angel who God sends down to earth as an answer to the prayers of Saif Ali Khan and the four kids he has been entrusted to care for. It was in the same angel attire that Rani made her rounds of the city. And she was in a “Magic Bus” painted blue and white and spreading happiness all over.

The first stop was at Maneckji Cooper School, from where Rani herself had passed out and spent many a happy hour. She gifted story books and chocolates to the excited kids there. It was a special moment for our angel too as she met with her school teachers. The bus then made its way to Mithibai College where some lucky students received Mac Book pro laptop, iPods and DVD players. The next stop was at the Jeevan Asha old age home where Rani spent quite a lot of time with the residents. Her gifts here were much more functional in keeping with the needs of the home: bed covers, microwave ovens, water purifier and DVD players. In return she received what she called the “biggest gift of all”, the blessings of the residents.

Even as the bus made its way through the crowded Mumbai streets, it made impromptu stops with Rani handing out surprise gifts. These surprised and delighted gift receivers included an auto driver and a paanwaala who received a music system each and the policemen at a police station which received an LCD TV, a surprised lady at a bus stop, a petrol pump attendant etc.

As the day was winding down to a close it was finally time for the last stop, at Inorbit Mall. Rani interacted with hordes of fans here and a lucky couple got a Santro car and an elderly couple got a chance to rediscover the romance in their lives all over again with a holiday package to Bangkok.

Spreading happiness and good cheer and bringing smiles to innumerable faces: as they say, for an angel, it’s all in a day’s work!

The day was a tribute to the common man who unstintingly brings us thoda pyaar and thoda magic in our daily lives.

The stars of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic join kids in song and dance

It was an evening to remember. Both for the cast and crew of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and 350 kids from eight different orphanages in Mumbai. The kids had a chance to experience the magic of the latest Yash Raj Films production and the stars witnessed firsthand the talent and enthusiasm of a group of spirited kids. The evening of 23rd May saw a unique musical journey that lasted an entire evening. It was anchored by the director and co-producer of the film, Kunal Kohli and was kicked off by the music directors of the film, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performing a medley of songs from Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Entertaining dance performances from some of the kids followed to songs of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic as also songs from other super hit of Yash Raj Films.

At the end of their performances Kunal surprised and delighted the kids by announcing that they would be receiving computer sets from Intel, who were partners for this event. Commenting on this partnership, Mr. Prakash Bagri, Director Marketing, Intel South Asia “Education is one of the best examples of how technology improves our lives. Under the World Ahead Program, Intel is equipping students & children everywhere with tools needed to become the next generation of innovators. Over the years we have been touched by children’s excitement when they are inspired by technology. The Intel-powered classmate PC is one of the ways we support the IT industry in spreading the benefits of technology in education for children around the world. We are pleased to partner with Yash Raj Films in this initiative and wish them success in all their projects.”

The evening then continued with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performing a medley of popular songs, with Ameesha Patel joining them towards the end for a spontaneous dance. Kids from Dreamz Home orphanage then wowed one and all with their rendition of songs from Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. It was then the turn of the angelic Rani Mukerji to join the kids in several fun interactions, turn by turn from each orphanage after which she handed over gifts to them. Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan then joined the kids in a dance to the tune of the peppy Nihaal Ho Gayi from Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. It proved so irresistible that soon Rani was onstage and joining in the fun as did Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The rollicking evening now drew to a close. For everyone involved it had truly been an evening of love and magic. Saif and Rani both agreed that it had been a memorable experience and thought it should be shared with a much larger audience than were physically present that evening at Bhaidas Hall, Mumbai. Lots of Poetry and lots of Music

Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic There’s a lot expectations from the Music of Yash Raj Films and Kunal Kohli productions’ Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, and the expectations are not without reason. In the last 3 years the highest selling album has been ‘Fanaa’ - ‘Chand Sifarish’ and ‘Mere Haath Mein’ were blockbuster hits that are still popular even today. Before that in ‘Hum Tum’ too Kunal Kohli gave us super hit music with ‘Ladki Kyon’, ‘Saanson ko Saanson Mein’ and ‘Mere Dil Vich’. Now after the super success of ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Fanaa’ the hit musical team of Kunal Kohli-Prasoon Joshi, this time teams up with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy to being to you the music of ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’.

In the immitable style of Prasoon Joshi are the lyrics of the film that touch your heart, tag at your emotions, bring a smile to your face, and the sheer poetry just brings out a ‘wah’.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy have given a range of different melodies in this album, that has something for every kind of listener. Whether its, love, fun, naach, sexy, entertaining it’s all there in ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’.

The album opens with Pyaar Ke Liye, sung by Shankar Mahadevan, which sums up the mood and spirit of the film. Evocative lyrics by Prasoon Joshi provide the base for a contemplative yet uplifting romantic song that is given an extra zest by a superb background chorus of voices and a strong guitar line that is weaved in at places throughout the song.

The next track Nihaal Ho Gayi combines eastern and western beats like only perhaps Shankar Ehsaan Loy can. Alternating and combining jazzy guitar chords at the start with qawwali infused vocalization, percussions and handclaps and sometimes carried along mainly by the soulfulness of Shankar’s voice, Nihaal Ho Gayi is a mélange of musical influences that truly works like magic.

Lazy Lamhe, which comes up next, would not be out of place in a night club in New York or Barcelona, not to mention Mumbai, Delhi or Ludhiana. The opening hook is one of the most insanely catchy ones heard in recent times and Anusha Mani does full justice in conveying the lazy sensuousness of the song picturised on Ameesha Patel. The DJ Aqeel remix of the song, which closes the album, adds on some more thumping electronic beats and riffs and draws out the vocals in places, making sure that the already catchy song becomes an irresistible dance floor hit.

Lazy Lamhe is followed on the album by Bulbula, picturised on Rani Mukerji, and voiced by Sunidhi Chauhan and Shankar Mahadevan. It describes Rani’s character in the film, and like her, is fresh and vibrant. One of Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s trademarks – superb harmonies – are used to fantastic effect in this peppy song which, incidentally, is one of the first songs in Hindi film history to be completely shot with eye popping visual effects and graphics.

Shreya Ghosal and Sneha Suresh, helped by a background of children’s voice, proclaims the confident and assertive spirit of the new India even while proclaiming its determination to not forget the lessons of the past. It’s a new spin on the patriotic song, inspirational yet trendy and catchy. Visually too the song is a landmark, as it touches on important moments in India’s history, going back and forth in time. Beetey Kal Se, is more than a patriotic song, its more than an educative song, it’s a social comment on where we are today and where we’re going tomorrow.

The album is brought to a close by the DJ Aqeel remixes of Nihaal Ho Gayi and Lazy Lamhe that are sure to be playing in car stereos and discos throughout the summer this year.

If you want music that both engages the mind and touches the heart, and makes summer a lot more pleasurable, you need to listen to the soundtrack of Thoda Pyaar, Thoda Magic. And when you do, you will know its one album that delivers a lot of Pyaar and a lot of magic!

Thoda Pyaar, Thoda Magic is co-produced by Yash Raj Films and Kunal Kohli, directed by Kunal Kohli, Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Lyrics by Prasoon Joshi and stars Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji and the music has been released on YRF Music.
